Instruments

There are numerous theremin designs available today, currently produced or second hand. They differ by many criteria: prise, quality, age, popularity, more digital functions, or pure analogue. While simple designs are easy to buy, more professional instruments are quite hard to find. You will have to explore different resources: a music instrument store in your town, Amazon, eBay, or similar. You should also learn information, the forum, and chats on thereminworld.com, Theremania Facebook group, Facebook Marketplace

Etherwave theremin
Built in USA (Out of production)

Etherwave Theremin

The Etherwave Theremin is based on the company’s original Etherwave circuitry and aesthetic, as designed by Bob Moog himself in 1996, and is billed as “an update” to Moog’s Etherwave Standard and Etherwave Plus. It includes improved bass response, updated antenna connections, mute control that can be used for “pitch preview” through headphones, and CV output integration to connect to other synthesizers.

Theremini

The Theremini is a re-imagination of one of the oldest electronic musical instruments, and synthesis pioneer Bob MOOG’s first love: the theremin. Its design fuses the unique experience of playing an instrument you don’t actually touch.

The Theremini’s Pitch Correction system allows the Theremini to play the distinct notes and steps of a musical scale; 22 Scales are available, beginning on any of 12 Root notes. This Pitch Correction can be added in any amount, effectively changing the Theremini’s level of playing difficulty to match any performer’s skill.

The Theremini features a built-in speaker, plus a headphone jack for private rehearsal. Based on MOOG’s award-winning AniMOOG synthesizer, the internal sound engine offers 32 presets, each providing a distinctly different tonality, or timbre. In addition, an onboard stereo effects section is provided, adding lush trails or spaciousness to the overall sound of your Theremini.

D-Lev, theremin design by Eric Walin
OPEN SOURCE / DIY / Designed in USA

D-Lev

The D-Lev is a (mostly) digital Theremin with many unique features. The primary achievement is the linearity of the pitch and volume fields, which are much more linear than anything you’ve ever experienced. Field sensitivity can be configured to best suit your playing style, and the volume field has an adjustable knee. True pitch correction, full-featured pitch preview, and real-time visual pitch feedback via the LED “tuner” all provide much welcomed assists to performance.
