Learn moving your fingers to change the pitch more quickly and precisely.
Learn different finger movements from closed hand (position 1) to fingers stretched towards the pitch antennae (position 8). You may adjust your tuning so that you can reach one octave by opening the hand without moving the arm. The number of finger positions from 1 to 8 is related to Carolina Eyck’s “Eight finger method”, and is similar to the names of intervals within the octave. However, the shape of your hand for different finger positions and use of them for melodies may vary by each person, as well as by the use of different instruments or different music interpretation. Use opening the hand for big intervals of the melody or higher register, and more closed positions for smaller intonations, lower register, as well as for more confident playing. Keep your wrist relatively straight, and avoid holding it bent for too long. Use more legato playing to force your fingers work.
It is also advisable to learn Carolina Eyck’s Method at this stage. Learn also videos of different good thereminists. Later, you may find movements that better suit your hand size and are more comfortable for your finger joints.
